Mouse and Cookie Sweaters

Life is a good teacher and a good friend. Things are always in transitions if we could only realize it. Nothing ever sums itself up in the way that we like to dream about. The off-center, in-between state is an ideal situation, a situation in which we don't get caught and we can open our hearts and minds beyond limit. --Pema Chödrön, from When Things Fall Apart
I tried to make a felted mouse. I showed my attempt to the hubby and he said, "Is that a cat?" So that was the end of making a felted mouse.

So I knitted one instead and put a Fair Isle sweater on it:

I wasn't so sure about the colours I picked until I finished. I think it's cute:

Seymour had no opinion on the matter:

I seem to be grasping towards anything remotely yarn-related these days. Maybe it's an attempt to ground myself somehow, and I suppose that in the grand scheme of things to be grasping for, yarn stuff rates itself as pretty harmless. I was at the local bakery yesterday and realized that the gingerbread people were all wearing Cowichan-style sweaters. Now, all I can think about is knitting one for myself:

My current physique matches the gingerbread as well. We'd practically be related:

This was the last week of the Rozeta CAL. For some reason, I put myself under enormous pressure to finish it before the weekend. I picked it up and worked on it every spare moment I got, and on Friday evening, I wove in the final ends and wet-blocked it. On Saturday morning, I threw it onto our bed and was extremely pleased with the result:

The border is a bit wobbly, but I'm not worried about that at all. I made it from Schjeepjes Colour Crafter, which is an acrylic yarn and will therefore be a breeze to clean and care for. I am very much looking forward to having it on my lap for the rest of the winter evenings:

There are quite a few fine details to this blanket, which you can't see unless you are up close to it. I am not usually a big fan of bobbles, but there's something so architectural about them on this blanket:

And I was very, very pleased with the look of the overlay crochet features throughout:

We flew out to Winnipeg again yesterday, and we are here for the holidays. It was a journey fraught with delay after delay, several attempts to land and several attempts to take off. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about the plane crashing with all the issues we faced, but we made it unscathed, if somewhat late.

We're spending a lot of time in the hospital while we're here, as things are improved but not yet settled with my family's health issues. I'm actually kind of grateful because I wasn't sure I could face a busy, bustling Christmas this year, but I'm looking forward to feeling "normal" again... whatever that is. In the meantime, I'm contenting myself with wearing stretchy pants and fiddling with a wee knitting project while I'm here.

Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones. Thanks for hanging around with me on this blog.
